Celebrating Life We want you to enjoy this experience with the comforts of home within the safety and security of a hospital setting. The staff at MAGEE GENERAL HOSPITAL strives to make this a special experience from the moment you arrive until you leave with your newborn. The staff of the Labor, Delivery, and Recovery unit work as a team with the Nursery staff and Physicians to give you and your family the experience of a lifetime. The obstetrical staff has the expertise and experience to take care of all of your needs before, during and after you deliver, whether it is a vaginal or caesarean delivery. Although most women prepare for and have normal vaginal deliveries, there are circumstances under which a scheduled or emergency caesarean section is best. For this reason, a patient guide on both types of delivery is included for your information. For additional information or to arrange a tour of The BabyCenter - the labor, delivery and recovery suites of MAGEE GENERAL HOSPITAL, please to call (601) 849-7202. PRE-REGISTRATION It is important that you pre-register as soon as you know you are expecting. MAGEE GENERAL HOSPITAL requires verification of insurance benefits prior to admission. If you are uninsured, the hospital will require a deposit prior to admission. Please complete and return the perforated Patient Information form, which includes personal contact information as well as Insurance Information to begin this process. ADMISSION To obtain information or clarify your admission procedure prior to delivery, contact the MAGEE GENERAL HOSPITAL Admissions Office at (601) 849-7305. We will be happy to answer any questions you may have. NEWBORN NURSERY A well baby nursery is located in The BabyCenter at Magee General Hospital. Upon delivery, your baby is placed in the nursery to begin the transitional care of a newborn. During the first hours of life, babies are watched very closely by the nursing staff and placed under warmers where fetal monitors are attached for continual assessment. Your baby will remain on the monitor for approximately four (4) hours after his or her birth. Your baby will be weighed, measured, given an injection of Vitamin K and have antibiotic ointment place in his or her eyes. Footprints will also be taken by the nursing staff. When the baby's temperature is stable, he or she will be bathed. Following this transition period, your baby will be able to stay in the nursery or with his or her mother. Please let the nurse know your preference. OBSTETRICS James Dozier, M.D, completed his residency training and internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center.. He is a Junior Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Dozier's clinic, OB/GYN Associates of Magee, is here right on the hospital campus in the Medical Towers at Tuscan Court. As a specialist in women's healthcare, Graham Weaver, M.D, brings valued services to the women in our community. He is a Junior Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Weaver completed his residency training and internship at the University of Mississippi Medical Center before choosing to practice in Magee.
PEDIATRIC CARE Magee General Hospital is fortunate to have Pediatric Clinic of Magee conveniently located just next door in the Medical Towers at Tuscan Courts. Having a Pediatrician on staff for immediate care of your newborn makes it possible for you to have your baby seen by a specialist before ever leaving the hospital.
VISITATION Since the birthing experience often includes older brothers and sisters, we encourage their visits to your room only after deliver. This provides an opportunity for siblings to share in the joy of a new birth and to form a positive relationship between older brothers and sisters and the new infant. Because a newborn's immune system is not fully developed, we make every effort to assure that any siblings visiting are free from illness. Please be sure that all visitors wash their hands prior to visiting with your newborn. OVERNIGHT GUESTS If you prefer to have your husband or other family member stay overnight, a chair-sleeper is available for your guest's convenience. Please let the nursing staff know that you will be having an overnight guest so that linens may be provided and assistance in operating the chair can be given. Only one adult guest is allowed to stay overnight. Children under the age of 12 cannot be left alone. PHOTOGRAPHY It is the policy of Magee General Hospital that no pictures may be taken of the actual delivery. No moving pictures, tape recorders, or video cameras, or cell phones are allowed to be in use during the delivery. You may take pictures immediately following the birth.
